ACF-LI CVOID-19 Status Update & Resources

MESSAGE FROM THE ACF-LI BOARD OF DIRECTORS

You are not alone. Watch “If you only look around, you will be found” by – Dear Evan Hansen Cast. As we practice social distancing, quarantine, and in some instances voluntary isolation, know that as a chapter we are connected with each other, keep the faith – do not lose your smile or sight of happier times. Enjoy simple pleasures, little victories, reading an old cookbook and the fact you have people to converse with. In an effort to connect our membership and support one another, live the culinarian’s code, and share, this Monday April 6th we will be hosting two ZOOM meetings @ 6 PM and 730 PM sharing a timely keynote presentation, WTF WHAT THE FORK” by Denise Sutter, Leadership Consultant & Life Coach

With so much time at home for spring cleaning, online shopping and with good intentions to contribute among worthy causes or purchase PPE supplies for your families, please beware of scams. This is a time where bad people pray on others in the community. If the membership receives anything from the board it will either come from the chapter’s constant contact e-mail (John Carr/Rachel Prowler) or, if a direct massage from an officer it will be signed by both name/certification/title example Andrew Whitcomb, CEC Chairman of the Board. We will not solicit money or gift cards, we are not going to be sending out individual emails asking for food, gift cards, and Cheddar-up links will come from the board in this newsletter format only.

You are a special member within the ACF and our Long Island community. Do not forget our mission, vision and impact you contributed to. A pillar annual event the ACF-LI contributes to is The Morgan Center Great Chef’s Fundraiser. This month was to be the 17th annual event. Although it was postponed, Rod Zuch reported the Morgan Center still had a victory, a great achievement to mention as they developed in a week, a virtual classroom curriculum they launched for their students with cancer to learn, and smile.

ACF NATIONAL | From Stafford DeCambera, CEC, CCE, CCA, AAC | President Today I write you with a shorter message of motivation and hope. Each of us has their own way of searching for and finding hope. There are motivational moments through words & phrases, poetry, books, religion, food, art, music, dance and many more possibilities. As part of my own culture in Hawaii, in difficult times, I’ve most often found escape, peace and hope, through music.I’ve chosen two YouTube selections for your listening and watching pleasure. You may have already viewed and heard my choices. If you’ve already viewed and listened to these selections, then please listen again… and if not, you’re in for a treat. Join me in listening closely and viewing the powerful messages of hope, comfort and consolation, from Doctor Elvis Francois, Doctor William Robinson, James Corden, Ben Platt and from the cast or Dear Evan Hansen.Dream and imagine with me, a brighter future, our future. Know that you’re not standing alone, we will be found, we will be found! O.H.A.N.A.

THE MORGAN CENTER | Shared on April 3 From Rod ZUCH | Morgan’s Dad You are wonderful people. Thank you for all of your support. I look forward to seeing all of my chef friends again soon. I wanted to give you a brief update on THE MORGAN CENTER (TMC). We are following the guidelines set forth by New York and Florida and suspended operations until May 1st.Now the good news. Today we launched an online version of TMC program to the delight of our children and their families! We had 13 children in NY and FL attend, all from the safety of their own homes. They got the online program up and running in just one week!Nancy and I learned when Morgan was on cancer treatment that you need to ‘celebrate every victory’. Today was a real victory for the children and families of THE MORGAN CENTER. Please take a moment to celebrate our victory in your own way this weekend (of course while practicing good social distancing!). Nancy and I toast all of you tonight; with both a smile and a tear. I want to thank all of you for your support of THE MORGAN CENTER mission. Together we will continue to make a difference in the lives of young children battling cancer.RIVIERA DONATES 6 PALLET OF PRODUCE | ACF-LI & Ronald McDonaldThis past week 7 restaurants that donate to Ronald McDonald Charities of Long Island/Metro NY received 6 pallets of free produce and helped us #StopFoodWasteNYC
