Bio: 
 
Egunsi Foods (a-goo-see) is a New York City-based culinary brand rooted in my Nigerian heritage. Our ready-to-heat soups, starters, sauces and Jollof rice are inspired by the authentic West African flavors and nourishing recipes I grew up with, as well as my love of fostering connection around a common table. 
 
I immigrated to the United States from Nigeria as a teen. Soon after, away at college and missing my mother’s Nigerian cooking, I began recreating beloved family recipes — calling my mother for tips along the way. As I made new friends at school, I discovered cooking as more than just a source of comfort, but also the perfect way to share a piece of home with classmates who were curious about my culture. I started hosting dinner parties in my college dorm — introducing my  peers (many for the first time) to West Africa’s nuanced, regional foods and the meals of my childhood. I continued this tradition post-college, as a young professional in New York City, finding joy and forming friendships over my most cherished dishes. As word spread of my crave-able cooking, I began receiving requests for batches of my soups and catering — planting the seed for what would soon become my new professional path. After several years of careful development and market research through personal chef work, and multiple corporate catering contracts, including large-scale companies like Maverick Capital and Droga5, I debuted my first line of refrigerated, packaged West African soups at Whole Foods Market Harlem in 2017 — taking the leap to full-time entrepreneur.
 
At Egunsi Foods we are narrating our West African culture through the region’s most beloved classic flavors in the  products we create. We’ve been told we are “redefining what soup is”, and we believe we are  due to the uniquely versatile nature of our soups, which perform on multiple fronts. We are the first and only vegan West African Frozen and Fresh soup brand in the market. The soups were developed to be consumed as-is or used for simmering, braising, dipping and more; this is in keeping with the heritage of how our soups are used. The soups can be used to create Speed-Scratch Cooking of classic African dishes or inspired creative recipes! They are home and chefs-kitchen-heroes; versatile in their uses, helping to speed up weekday meal preps, and allow consumers to try their hands on unique global flavors that are currently not easily accessible, but are interested in exploring and experiencing.
 
 
Our flavorful lineup of satisfying, nutritious soups,  sauces and the famous West African Jollof Rice ships nationwide direct-to-consumer, and a roster of popular retailers — from FreshDirect to the Park Slope Food Coop, as well as food service providers such as Sodexo providing our products to DC Public Schools K-12 — we are poised to continue growing Egunsi Foods’ mission, sharing my story of West African culture, its people, and influence one bowl at a time.

Our Educational Demo will be presented by Wine Udesign.  Wine Udesign is the first licensed Winery ever in Nassau County.  We are an interactive Winery giving our members the opportunity to make their own “homemade” wine for personal consumption and gifting with friends and family.  We get our hands in the fruit from the very beginning, age our wines in barrels and source our grapes from California, Chile, South Africa and also feature many beautiful wines that come from the most celebrated regions of Italy.  We use an approach of minimal intervention when it comes to winemaking, so we use a bare minimum level of sulfites and zero chemical adjustments on our wines.  Come taste the difference.
